We came, we got it and IT. WAS. AWESOME! And by "it", I don't just mean the food; I mean the experience! The Louisiana Food Prize's "Come and Get It" and the "One Pot" chef relay cook off were both food and wine events like no other. Fabulous Nobodies like myself got the awesome opportunity to get all up close and personal with celebrity and local guest chefs, while trying samples of their delicious, artistically plated food. Parched are you? No worries, they had that covered too! Wine selections, Great Raft Brewing craft beer and signature cocktails were all there, waiting to be sipped. Take a look at the deliciousness I stuffed in my face.
From Left to Right:
Tristan Epps - Cumin scented beef ribs, red curry sweet and sour smoked eggplant and pickled radish.
Tom Ramsey - Wine-braised chuck roast and mushroom risotto
Troy Johnson - Baja fish taco with Asian sesame slaw
Ryan Hughes - Cajun Coq su Vin with polenta fries
Jeremy Conner - Cobia tataki with satsuma and ginger
PK Newby - Spicy Bahn Mi with sesame-soy tofu, seasonal vegetables and pickled chilies
Tyler Linden - the La Viva Rita - Hussong's Tequila, fresh squeezed lemon juice, muddled raspberries & lemonade
Jason Brady - Mangalitsa Lonzino with preserved peaches and toasted pecan gremolata
Buttercups Cupcakes - Pumpkin Spice flavor
The "One Pot" chef relay was the highlight of the evening. Three teams, two chefs each, took turns blindly adding ingredients to a pot after not knowing what the previous team put in. It was a quite interesting combination of things that actually turned out edible. Rumor has it that last year's dish didn't turn out so great (or very edible). There were plenty of laughs to be had at the comedic, witty banter between hosts Chef Tom Ramsey and Food Network host/food writer, Troy Johnson. All in all, the chefs were great sports and had a great time.
I know, you're thinking, "so, how did it taste"? Think, spicy, curry-ish, French Creole soup with Andouille sausage, flank steak, tomatoes, spinach and beans! Interesting right? Interesting enough that I had two bowls, don't judge!
Well, that's #HowWeFest and and how we get sent home with goodies from the Prize Fest and their sponsors!
Viva La Food Prize!
