LA Food Prize Session 2 | Dinner 7 with Hardette Harris

Last night, Chef Hardette Harris took us on a culinary journey featuring "Us Up North" foods, sprinkled with a little Italian, Asian and Indian cuisine.  We dined on a creative fusion of north Louisiana staple foods with a few international twists.  Here's what we ate...

Amuse
Cornbread and Caponata Bruschetta
Do you see this Louisiana shaped cornbread?  How cute!  The caponata, a mixture of eggplant, olives, and onions seasoned with herbs, was the perfect topping for the cornbread - the two were a perfect balance.

Appetizer
Spinach and Turkey Pot Stickers, Asian Slaw with Ginger Dressing
Chef Hardette says that while working as a private chef, these were one of her clients' favorites and I definitely see why.  They were delicious.  The ginger dressing was good enough to drink, I thought about it, but I refrained.

Entree
Curry Chicken over Purple Hull Peas and Rice Roti
We were informed that the entree had a bit of a kick but nothing too offensive.  You can imagine that I was nervous, because I like spicy, but spicy doesn't like me!  To my pleasant surprise, the heat was not bad at all and my empty plate was proof of that!

Dessert
Carrot Cake Ice Cream Sandwiches
with Vodka Infused Cream Cheese Ice Cream and Spiced Carrot Cake Anglaise
Carrot cake lovers, feast your eyes upon this cinnamon-y, nutmeg-y deliciousness.  Is your mouth watering yet?  It should be, this was delicious.
