Back in my middle school/high school days, you could hear that chant and it was safe to assume that you could run to the crowd, watch a good ole fashioned fist fight and walk away unscathed (that is, if you weren't involved). Nowadays, things aren't that simple. You can run to a crowd to watch a fight, as an innocent bystander and leave on a stretcher. Boy have times changed.
But, I digress. Here's what's on my mind today. Have you ever been in the company of a group of people and someone in the group calls another person in the group out? It could be about the lie they told last week, the 2 hour lunch break they took on Monday or a you're sleeping with my man type deal; but that awkward period of waiting to see how the called out person is going to react is PRICELESS. All eyes immediately focus on that person and you're on edge to see what's about to go down. I must admit, I wasn't born with the gift of gab nor am I the wittiest one in the group so I kind of enjoy watching people's reaction when they are put on the spot.
Ive seen reactions range from mere dismissal of the comment, to all out rage! Its funny because some of the most mellow people can turn barbaric when being called out and put on the spot about something. I guess this would be where our flight or fight response would kick in (yeah, I learned a little something, somthing in Psych class). But it does make one wonder where people harbor all that anger? Grandmaster Flash may have had the answer to that question:
"Don't push me 'cause I'm close to the edge,
I'm tryin' not to loose my head. Uh huh ha ha ha..."
-The Message, Grandmaster Flash
you never know, LOL!
